ok, i know this has already been posted directly and indirectly.
now that we are getting into the holiday season.
how did you feel the first time you set holiday decorations at your home.
being raised into the JW beliefs from a very young age, I did not know anything else.
My first Xmas when I was in my early 20s was great. A full day of champagne; xmas music; decorated tree; lavish presents; the works...
I made up for all the lost time and holidays and now celebrate with a vengence.
i enjoy swing dancing because it's very creative as a social dance.
you can learn a little or a lot, and enjoy it easily.
my parents taught me a little bit about swing dancing when i was young.
Hi Bebu
you are not alone with the swing music. The real New York City nite clubs ( rainbow room, club el morrocco) play all the swing music from the 1930s and 40s. They also have mariachi bands to play old "Xavier Cugat " cuban swing when the band is on a break. It has been all the rage here in NY since the late 80s early 90s. It is referred to as "Society music".
I enjoy dancing to it.

started a thread about not feeling well and asked what others biggest complaints were right now.. so i got to thinking, what is the opposite?
what is the one thing that gives you a reason most to smile and get out of bed in the morning.
...my kids, my wife, and my home
in that order. And I do count my blessings....

hmm, not sure how to write this - here goes:.
i left the jw's about 15 years ago however my 18 year old son is a witness.
we haven't seen each other for many years and the only contact we have is via the telephone occasionally (all this is cool btw).

If I were you--I would run fast in the opposite direction as if your life depended on it.
well, the shunning begins.
we finally had "the" discussion with my parents, that we no longer consider ourselves jw's, and a little bit of why we felt that way.
of course, "dad the elder and po" and mom the pioneer dutifully informed us that not only will they be "loyal to the organization" and shun us completely, but that he would immediately let the other elders know, so that proper judicial action could be taken.. it was a heart wrenching discussion, with all of us, including my two young boys (9 and 10) all balling our eyes out.
Brandon,
You have my support and encouragement. You have much courage; in your decision, and much open mindedness in still keeping your home open to them. That is a wonderful example. The best "example" ( revenge is too strong a word) is to go on and lead a normal life without any of them. Despite the bumpy road ahead of you; be strong and move on. You can do it. Make new friends and have new experiences, and all of this will become a distant memory. Keep a positive attitude, and never "empower" them to do you any more injustice or emotional harm.
Good luck to you and your wife

as a kid i would try to pay attention, but i just couldn't hang in there.
if i didn't day dream i was going to go insane.. i used to create scenarios in my mind that i was a jw super hero.
i had a special costume that was partially made of "flubber" that would allow me to bounce all over the auditorium.
I daydreamed when the program got too long. What else COULD a child do? When I was very young my parents gave me a pencil and paper to draw or crayons and coloring books.
To this day, I think it is a terrible thing to expect children to sit there and do nothing through all those hours. The memories I have are not always so pleasant.
This is not a child friendlly religion.
ps. I like the scenario where the speaker is taken at gun point.
